There is something mesmerising about watching the sky melt. Sometimes vibrant oranges throwing jet-black shadows, and other times soft pink, blue, and mauve hues coalesce before gradually fading into darkness.
“It is almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream” Bernard Williams
These are some of my favourite Sunsets on Bribie that I have experienced over the last few months.
Wine, cheese and laughter
Grab a picnic blanket, some snacks and a bottle of wine and you’re all set! You can find me most weekends happily gazing out over the water sipping on a fruity, full-bodied Pinot Noir, and dreaming away.
Feeling fancy? Sunset picnics and platters are a much classier and organised approach to enjoying sunsets on Bribie. They really know how to turn a simple sunset into a memorable occasion.
In a rush? No worries. Just drop into the local bottle shop and delicatessen only a short walk to Banksia Beach.
Catch your dinner
As you watch the sunset over the glasshouse mountains why not snag a seafood feast for dinner?!
The Pumicestone Passage is renowned for it's spoils with loads of fish, crabs and prawns being caught here all year round.
At Bongaree jetty you are likely to come across mulloway, juvenile snapper, bream, flathead, cod, parrot and Moses perch.
From the sands of Sylvan Beach and Banksia Beach, you are likely to find tailor, bream and flathead.
Alternatively, drop a few crab pots and bag a few mud crabs. If you're out of luck you can always head up to Sue's Cafe for a cheater's feast!
Cook up a BBQ feast
Dotted all along the beautiful beachfront are BBQs. Simply choose your favourite westerly facing beach - Bongaree, Sylvan Beach or Banksia Beach and set up for the evening. You won't be the only one with this fantastic idea, so best to choose your spot whilst the sun is still nice and high in the sky so you can have the best view of the sun as it makes its way around the earth.
Just pick up some fresh bread and snags near Banksia Beach or some fresh seafood and ice cream at Bongaree.
Sunsets on Bribie are always better when shared with friends!
Get wet
Swim, kayak, paddleboard, jetski or jump in a boat – the hardest part will be deciding on which beach to choose!
Sylvan Beach is frequented by families because it has big strips of white sand and shallow water making it a safe place to swim for little-uns. Loads of picnic and barbeque areas, playgrounds and toilets make it a great spot to set up for the afternoon. Near the boat ramp, there is a bait shop where you can pick up any last minute tackle before you head out for a fish. Or if you're feeling like something a little more chilled, drop into Sunset Pier Café nearby where dogs are welcome, too.
You can watch the sunset anywhere along Bongaree. Pull out a camp chair, throw on a hat and you're all set. But one of the biggest drawcards is Bongaree Jetty. Kids love swimming around it and jumping off it.
Another great beach for swimming, and with the most spectacular views of the sunset is Banksia Beach. It's also family-friendly, with loads of picnic areas, a couple of playgrounds, outdoor gyms and toilet blocks. And when it is low tide you will find soldier crabs scattering across soft sand.
Let’s get physical
Why not make Bribie’s glorious sunsets the perfect backdrop for your walk, run, cycle or work out.
Bribie’s picturesque parks, walking and cycling tracks run the full length of the beach. Making them perfectly placed to sneak in some cardio - with the best view. Dogs are allowed on-leash, so bring your four-legged friend. They also feature several dynamic outdoor fitness stations if you prefer to build some core strength while you dream about the future.

So true! I love watching sunsets so much 😁
Though, I must admit my favourite Bribie sunset has definitely been when there were little ducklings playing around my feet as I ate a snag.
