10 Bribie Adventures

Updated: Mar 26, 2022

To thoroughly experience all that Bribie Island has to offer, we have put together a list of 10 Bribie Adventures to get you started!

You must go on adventures to find out where you truly belong ~ Sue Fitzmaurice

1. TAKE a Cruise

This is a nice easy start to your adventure bucket list. No matter the weather, this is such a serene way to experience the waters of the Pumicestone Passage. Ferryman Cruises offer three to choose from:

2. Butterfly Effect

There is a beautiful little butterfly sanctuary located on First Avenue between Bongaree and Woorim. Nurtured by passionate volunteers who raise butterflies as a hobby. They run informative guided tours which cover a range of fun facts from pupae to mature butterfly. When it comes to choosing a day to visit, their advice is – make sure it’s sunny! Butterflies are most active when the sun is out.

The Butterfly House is open Sundays and Wednesdays between 10am – 4pm.

3. Romantic Gondola Cruise

Ever been to Venice? Well, this magnificent little gondola will transport you straight back there! If you’re after something romantic or even just a little fancy, experience the Luxury of an Island Gondola Cruise.

Operating from sunrise to late, seven days a week, there really isn’t a good reason not to try this out! Cruises can run 1 or 1.5 hours and can cater for up to 6 people. You can BYO food and drink or if you want to be spoilt, order one of their catering platters.

4. 4x4 Adventure Tour

Don’t own a 4WD? Prefer to let someone else do all the driving? G’day Adventure Tours has you covered. They offer lots of tours, but the 4x4 Adventure Tour will see you experience the beautiful Bribie Island beach, visit local lagoons & explore the WWII bunkers of Fort Bribie.

A picnic lunch and drinks are provided. Make sure you bring your camera. You are sure to see an abundance of spectacular wildlife on Bribie Island.

5. Learn to surf

Get your togs on, bring a friend and learn how to surf with the Bribie Island Surf School. The school provides surf and stand up paddleboard lessons and runs classes for all skill levels:

  • Beginner

  • Intermediate

  • Kids

  • Mums

  • Teen squads

  • School groups

  • Private lessons

  • Special events

With beautiful white sandy beaches, warm waters and small rolling waves, Bribie Island is the ideal location for the beginner surfer.

6. Kayak the Pumicestone Passage

Prefer more of a self-paced adventure? Try hiring out a kayak from Bribie Hut Hire.

You can set your own pace, explore the Pumicestone Passage, take a dip and have some fun!

Keep an eye out for dolphins, dugongs, turtles and fish that love to play just off the shore.

7. Self-drive a BBQ Boat

What's better than a BBQ? A BBQ, on a boat! Enjoy a day on the water, cast a line, catch some fish, and have a BBQ at the same time! Bribie Island Boat Charters have 8-person and 12-person self-drive BBQ boats for unlicensed boaters – so anyone can do it!

Half-day or full-day hires available. And for those looking to have a little celebration, alcohol is allowed on board, but always remember that the same laws apply on the water as on the road – the driver must be under 0.05.

8. Adrenaline-packed JetSki tour

Looking for something a bit more intrepid? Try out the four-hour extravaganza: “Pumicestone Chase” run by Moreton Bay Jetski.

Discover the magic of Pumicestone Passage under the shadows of the Glasshouse Mountains. This tour combines the thrill of a jetski ride with an adventurous eco-experience winding through narrow waterways under the volcanic Glasshouse Mountains. This tour extends up to Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast where you will have free time (45 minutes) to buy a coffee and a snack before jetting off back to Bribie.

9. Play a round of golf

The Pacific Harbour Golf Course, designed by Ross Watson, will challenge even the champion golfer. This 18-hole championship golf course is one of the best in South East Queensland. Water is the central theme of this Bribie Island course, with it incorporating, watercourses and native vegetation to craft a “risk and reward” style par 72 course.

After you sink your final putt, sit course-side and enjoy a beer or dinner reminiscing about how many balls you donated to the course throughout the day!

10. TRY a TRI

Now this one is a personal favourite of mine. The Bribie Island Triathlon series has been running for more than 30 years. There are four races each year (Oct, Nov, Feb and Mar) with a variety of courses to choose from. Good for kids, beginners and serious competitors the energy from the local community is inspiring.

Do what you've always done, get what you've always got. ~TriEdge squad motto

Why wait? Call a friend, tell them to get dressed because you’re going on an adventure!
