Stay the night and you’ll want to stay forever! But where? No rows of skyscrapers littering the waterfront, so what are your options? Lots! You just have to choose your style and your location.
Woorim
Stay the night in Woorim – our surf beach, located on the east side of Bribie Island. With Moreton Island protecting us from the southern swell, you will find soft, white sand to sink your toes into and small surf good for body-boarding and easy surfing. With the vast majority of accommodation within walking distance to restaurants, cafes, surf club and the beach – you might just want to stay the week!
This month’s picks:
Modern Apartment: On the Beach Resort
Modern AirBnB: Luxurious Beachside Retreat
Caravan Park: Bribie Island Caravan Park
Camping*: Ocean Beach Camp Grounds
*You will need a 4WD to access the campgrounds
Bongaree
Stay the night in Bongaree – one of our westerly beaches with gentle waters and wide-sweeping views across the bay from Sandstone Point to Redcliffe.
Bongaree Beach has loads of parklands that run all the way along the beachfront’s soft white sand. In the heart of Bongaree, you will find a tapas bar, Italian cuisine, Modern Australian cuisine – all with views of the water. The bowls clubs and RSL are all within walking distance and there are lots of watercraft and wheeled-craft to hire for a bit of fun. Fish from the jetty or enjoy a stroll through the markets which run most Sundays. Where to stay?
This month’s picks:
Caravan Park with water views: Bongaree Caravan Park
Modern & historic AirBnB: The Turret Suite
Modern apartment: On The Bay Apartments
Sylvan Beach, Bellara
Stay the night near Sylvan Beach – a popular beach for swimming and families with lots of playgrounds, picnic and bbq areas.
Sylvan Beach is home to the Bribie Island Triathlon and has a few shops near the main boat ramp including café & fish n chip shops overlooking the water, a bait & tackle shop and a cute little Mexican restaurant that makes wicked Nacho Fries.
The Bribie Island Hotel has fantastic views of the water and provides a fun, casual dining experience. Quieter than Bongaree & Woorim, you typically find day-trippers visiting the shores, but if you’re wanting to feel more like a local than a tourist, there are a couple of places you can stay.
This month’s picks:
Apartments: The Gums Anchorage
Waterfront Home: 115 Sylvan Esplanade
Banksia Beach
Stay the night in Banksia Beach – the most north-westerly beach before the national park and frequented by locals.
The calm waters of Banksia beach are where you come for a bbq, a spot of fishing, a swim or any kind of water sports. Nestled amongst locals, you won’t find any high-rise apartments or resorts.
The shops are an easy 800m walk from the boat ramp where you will find groceries, a bakery, delicatessen & butchery, fish 'n chip shop and florist (plus a café and Sushi Train opening soon). Think of Banksia Beach as the location you would choose if you want to experience what it’s like to live here. Accommodation is limited to holiday rentals.
This month’s pick
Modern AirBnB: 71 By the Sea
Sandstone Point
Stay the night in Sandstone Point – just across from Bribie Island and renowned for entertainment and fun, you will find the Sandstone Point Hotel (SPH).
There’s always something happening at SPH, music festivals, rodeos, water parks – I’m personally looking forward to Bonfire night in July. As for where to stay, there’s one stand out choice for us.
This month’s pick
Ultra Modern Big 4 Caravan Park: Sandstone Point Holiday Resort
