For the sushi lovers on Bribie Island

Updated: Mar 26, 2022

Locals have been waiting months to get a taste of the greatly anticipated Japanese restaurant. Last week, the wait was over and Sushi Lovers opened their doors in Banksia Beach - and they did not disappoint.

You know you’re on a winner when it’s 11.30am, the restaurant is full and people are lined up for take-away.

So we decided to try it out for ourselves and here’s the review:

Dining experience

It’s vibing. The music is lively, the chefs are busy, the sushi train is super shiny, and we are seated on the comfiest tan leather cushioned bar stools. We are surrounded by young families, young couples, older couples and a handful of teenagers. This really is a hit for everyone.

It’s not long until we take our first pick from the sushi train and we hope that it is a winner.

The food

We eagerly set up our dipping bowls, snap open our chopsticks, take our first plate off the train and lift the lid.

Teriyaki Chicken Avocado Roll

The first thing we notice is just how fresh the sushi is.

The rice is perfectly cooled, the seaweed still has a crisp bite to it, the avocado is perfectly tender and the chicken is perfectly cooked.

It’s a winner!

Tempura Prawn Nigiri

Then we try tempura prawn nigiri. Always a difficult one to get right, but BOOM! They nailed it.

The batter is light, the prawn is super tasty and the tail is perfectly crispy.

Now my new favourite.

Chicken Avocado Nigiri

Next up is the chicken avocado nigiri, which you can only describe as light but generous.

The crumbed chicken is crispy and juicy, the avocado perfectly ripe and a fresh wrap of seaweed that easily melts in the mouth.

Yum! We had this one twice.

Fresh Tuna Avocado Roll

Time for some more seafood.

The fresh tuna avocado roll is exactly that.

I love soya sauce, but it is not needed with this one.

Perfectly salty and fresh as it is.

Pork Gyozas

And we couldn’t leave without trying their freshly pan steamed gyozas.

Nicely caramelised, plump and juicy.

We weren’t sure what to expect and we left VERY satisfied.

We have since been back twice and have raved about it to our friends.

It has been so busy they are now hiring more staff to help with table service, takeaway and washing dishes.

Coming soon they will be opening a Cube Tea – can’t wait. Well done Sushi Lovers Bribie Island. You’re on to a winner!
